Replacing Basement Windows in Somers, CT

This homeowner in Somers, CT called us hoping that we would be able to fix some of the issues his home was having with cold rooms. When our Home Comfort Specialist arrived in the home, they realized that one of the issues they were having was that their windows were inefficient and thin. There was a lot of conditioned air being loss and even more outside air getting in.

Luckily for this homeowner, we were able to help them out with this. We replaced the old and inefficient windows with our Everlast™ basement windows. These windows feature double pane glass that is treated to reduce heat flow in or out of the glass. They also have vinyl frames and sashes -- meaning they will not rust, rot, or need paint. This homeowner now will have less air leakage in and out of their home as well as a more temperature controlled basement. Plus, it no longer has a rusty, old appearance.

Installing a Radon Mitigation System in Somers, CT

This homeowner in Somers, CT called us hoping that we would be able to come out and help him with a home he had recently purchased. He was renovating the home both inside and out. During the renovations, he decided to test his home for radon. His basement came out to be 4.5 pCi/L, which is above the EPA's Radon Action Level of 4 pCi/L. He wanted to reduce the level to under 4 pCi/L. It was important to him to do this as soon as possible, as he wanted to complete all of the work in the basement at the same time.

We were able to help this customer. We installed a radon mitigation system in his home. We identified a specific room in the basement where the mitigation system would be best installed. We began by drilling the holes in the basement -- both in the concrete slab in the bottom and the hole for the exterior penetration. We then began installing the pipes and secured them inside the basement. He installed the manometer on the pipe on the inside of the home. The manometer measures the pressure of the radon in the system, indicating whether or not it is functioning correctly. After that, he went outside to build the rest of the system. He installed the fan on the outside of the home. Once the system was installed, he went back inside, sealing around all of the cracks and gaps in the basement. He also sealed all of the holes that had been drilled for the system. Now, this homeowner has a radon mitigation system designed to keep their levels low!

Insulating a Crawl Space in Somers, CT

This homeowner in Somers, CT called us hoping to talk about the results of his energy audit. The audit had mentioned that he needed comprehensive insulation in his home. His attic, basement, and crawl space all had issues. He wanted it insulated properly before he got his basement finished.

We were able to help this customer! One of the solutions we utilized was our CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation system. We first insulated the walls using our SilverGlo™ foam insulation. For the floor, we added a dimpled drainage mat to create a thermal break. We then installed TerraBlock™ floor insulation on top of that. Then, we installed a CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation liner over that insulation. We fastened it into both the walls and floor to create a permanent solution for this crawl space. We then added two-part expanding spray foam to the rim joist to ensure that the crawl space was covered. Combined with our other solutions, this homeowner will experience less drafts, warmer floors, lower energy bills, and a much more comfortable home!

Insulating an Attic in Somers, CT

This homeowner in Somers, CT called us hoping to talk about his insulation. He had concerns about his attic due to some mold that was found there. He had high humidity in the attic and basement. His home was also very uncomfortable and he had a dust issue in the home that he could not find a cause for.

We had the perfect solution for this customer. We were able to replace the attic insulation with TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. We started by removing the batt insulation, putting it in large bags. We then went in and air-sealed around all of the points where air leaks up from the home to the attic. We did this using our Zypfoam™ spray foam. Once the atitc is air sealed, we used a long hose to blow in TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. TruSoft™ is amazing -- it does not burn, get moldy, or attract pests. The blown-in insulation fills all gaps and oddly shaped voids. The homeowner is now much more comfortable in his home!

Insulating a Basement in Marlborough, CT

This homeowner in Marlborough, CT called us hoping that we would be able to help her with her basement. She had issues with her home, specifically, she had musty smells and cold floors.

This basement had no insulation. Therefore, the customer was hoping for insulation in the rim joist. The rim joist is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house.

Luckily, we had the perfect solution for this customer. We insulated the basement with two-part closed cell spray foam. This spray foam expands and fills all cracks and gaps in the rim joist and over the sill plate. Now, this home will be much more comfortable, and there are no more air leaks in the basement!
