Spray Foam on Rim Joists

Used spray foam on rim joists to seal up areas where energy was being lost.

Insulating a Basement in Agawam, MA

This homeowner in Agawam, MA called us hoping that we would be able to help her with her cold home. Specifically, the bathroom in her home was colder than the rest of the house. When our Home Comfort Specialist arrived in the home, he took a look at the area of the basement directly under the bathroom. The insulation in that part of the basement was fiberglass batts that were put into between the beams in the basement ceiling. Unfortunately, fiberglass does not stop airflow, which was causing the cold room problems.

We were able to help this homeowner with her home! We re-insulated this basement with two-part expanding spray foam. We started by removing all of the old fiberglass insulation. After that was all removed, we began applying two part spray foam to the rim joist and over the sill plate. Spray foam expands, filling all cracks and gaps and preventing air flow up from the basement into the main living space. Now, their home (and especially their bathroom) is much more comfortable!

Encapsulating a Crawl Space in Hadley, MA

This homeowner in Hadley, MA reached out to us because she was having issues in her home. She got water in her basement during heavy rains, even though she had a sump pump. When our Basement Systems Specialist came out to the home, he talked to her about her home comfort issues. She mentioned that she had humidity problems, including in her crawl space that was off the basement. She also had mold in her home.

We were able to help this customer! One of the solutions we utilized was our CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation system. We first insulated the walls using our SilverGlo™ foam insulation. For the floor, we added a dimpled drainage mat to create a thermal break. We then installed TerraBlock™ floor insulation on top of that. Then, we installed a CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation liner over that insulation. We fastened it into both the walls and floor to create a permanent solution for this crawl space. We then added two-part expanding spray foam to the rim joist to ensure that the crawl space was covered. Combined with our other solutions, this homeowner will experience less drafts, warmer floors, lower energy bills, and a much more comfortable home!

Super Attic in East Hartford, CT

Previously this homeowner was experiencing very uncomfortable rooms below this attic as well as very high energy bills.  Our Building Science Specialist came in and did an evaluation with the homeowner and discovered there were problems in the walk up attic.

Our production team installed a Super Attic Conversion System in this attic to eliminate uncomfortable rooms, ice damming and cold drafts, and of course, energy loss.  The homeowner was very happy with the changes they saw immediately in their home.

Insulating a Basement in East Hartford, CT

This homeowner in East Hartford, CT called us hoping that we would be able to help her finish her basement. They had a partially finished basement that they wanted redone, which included demolishing the old basement. Before we were able to finish the basement, however, we first had to insulate it.

After removing the fiberglass insulation they had in the home,  we re-insulated using two-part spray foam. This spray foam was applied in the rim joist, which is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house. We also applied Foamax foam insulation board to the walls of the basement, providing more insulation. Now, this basement is more comfortable than ever, and the homeowner can begin the process of having the basement of their dreams!
