This family in Williamstown, MA reached out to us looking for help with basement waterproofing. They had recently had water intrusion in their basement due to late winter's melting snow and heavy rains. When our Home Comfort Specialist came out to the home, he noted that the basement had standing water in multiple rooms. 

In order to help this customer, we needed to install a sump pump and perimeter drainage system. We used our TripleSafe™ sump pump alongside our WaterGuard™ perimeter drainage system. This sump pump features three pumps! The first pump is a 1/3 hp, cast iron Zoeller pump that can pump up to 2200 gallons per hour, 8 feet high. Should the first pump fail or not be able to keep up with the temporary heavy flow of water, a 1/2 hp AC back-up pump on a separate discharge line can pump 3900 gallons of water per hour. If the power fails, then a third, battery operated "UltraSump" pump automatically pumps up to 12,000 gallons of water out of the basement. Now, the homeowners will have peace of mind, knowing that they have three pumps keeping their basement dry! 

This family in Williamstown, MA reached out to us with a basement water issue. When our Home Comfort Specialist came out to the home, he noted that there was a dehumidifier in the basement. They wanted to address a pre-existing humidity issue alongside waterproofing the basement. High humidity in a home is caused by a number of important conditions. High humidity causes many problems in a home such as mold (which grows at Relative Humidities [RH] above 75%), rot (which happens above 90% RH) odors, airborne mold spores that aggravate allergies and asthma, increased pests and insects such as termites, and higher air conditioning and heating costs. We had the perfect solution for this customer. The SaniDry™ Sedona air system is a powerful but energy efficient dehumidification and air filtration system in one unit. Able to remove an incredible 100 pints of water per day and using only 5.9 amps of electricity, the SaniDry™ Sedona drains automatically to a sump or the outside with a condensate pump. It has a powerful 310 cfm blower to circulate the dry air completely around to dry building materials and contents. Mold doesn’t have a chance! These homeowners called because they were looking to have a full energy evaluation done to see where they can save money and improve energy efficiency.

Our Building Science Specialist arrived at the home and sat with the homeowners to get a good idea of their main concerns and come up with a general plan. Upon evaluation, we discovered that the attic area was filled with old, dirty, inefficient and moldy batt insulation which would need to be removed, the area thoroughly cleaned and treated with MoldX and add enough new, TruSoft blown cellulose insulation to bring the home to meet today's energy efficiency standards. We used 4" SilverGlo along the attic deck and vertical walls. Our specialist also discovered we would need to extend the existing bathroom vent fan out through the roof to further prevent moisture and mold into the attic. We also installed a David Lewis Attic Pull-Down Stair Hatch Cover to properly insulate and air seal the entrance to the attic.

Our Building Science Specialist went to the home and inspected the attic area. We were able to confirm that there were, in fact, several rodents living in the insulation in the kneewall areas or the unfinished area, outside of the conditioned space, separated by a "kneewall", necessary to support the roof rafters.
