Replacing Old Window Wells in Feeding Hills, MA

This homeowner in Feeding Hills, MA called us hoping that we would be able to help him with his home. He was getting water in his basement when it rained. His family had been in the home for 30 years, and they wanted to be able to prevent the leaking. They believed that it was leaking in through the window wells. The window wells flooded when it rained, and they were full of standing water and debris.

We were able to help this customer! We replaced the old, rusty window wells with our SunHouse™ window enclosures! After removing the old window wells, we installed the SunHouse™ against every basement window. SunHouse™ enclosures are great. In order to prevent rain and debris from getting into the home, a clear cover was installed. The window well portion of the enclosure prevents weeds from growing. In the old setup, mud was splashing against the windows, looking messy and preventing light from coming in. This is prevented as well with the SunHouse™! Now, this homeowner is looking forward to not having muddy windows or rain getting into their window wells!

Replacing Windows in Wethersfield, CT

This homeowner in Wethersfield, CT called us hoping that we would be able to replace her windows. They were old and inefficient, and they just needed replacement. Some rooms are more drafty on windy days because older, poorly insulated window assemblies get loose over time. Some rooms are also drafty on cold days, even if there isn’t any wind, because of a convective loops. Convective loops occur when the air the homeowner pays to heat their home rises. Heat moves from more to less. When this warm air hits relatively colder surfaces, like the ceiling and walls, it loses its heat it and falls. This creates a constant looping circulation pattern that they feel as a draft. Older windows that are poorly installed and have poor insulation take even more heat from the air around the windows, which accelerates the looping air and makes the room feel even more drafty. Results: Cold and drafty rooms in the winter, high heating bills.

We were able to help this customer by utilizing our Sunrise double-hung replacement windows. The airtight design and construction of the Sunrise window provides the lowest air infiltration rates in the industry. Sunrise windows have vinyl welded frames and sashes. They are not screwed together so there is no room for air to leak through. The windows are made with triple weather strip barrier, 50% more than other windows. And the weather strips are made of Mylar that is denser and more resilient to temperature changes than competitive materials. Sunrise windows are made to tighter sash mechanism tolerances, and their manufacturing equipment is continually calibrated for consistent product quality. For additional infiltration resistance, each Dr. Energy Saver window built by Sunrise is wrapped with ¼” open cell polyurethane foam to insulate the space between the window and the home’s frame. This extra insulation helps to stop drafts and heat loss. Results: Warmer and less drafty rooms in the winter, lower heating and cooling bills.

Replacing a Basement Door in Suffield, CT

This homeowner in Suffield, CT called us hoping that we would be able to help her with her insulation in her basement. Our Home Comfort Specialist evaluated the home and found many issues that the homeowners had just accepted dealing with. One of these issues was the fact that the home had no door at the bottom of the hatch steps. Since bulkhead doors are not insulated, they leak a lot of cold (or warm!) air into the basement, and it can float up into the rest of the living areas. This can cause cold floors in the winter or condensation, high humidity, and even mold in the summer. This is what the homeowner was experiencing.

Luckily for this customer, we were able to help her with this issue! We installed a insulated exterior door at the bottom of the steps. We first installed the framing that it needed. Then, we installed the door, complete with weather stripping and a locking knob. The fact that the door is insulated means that they will not be affected by the bulkhead door leaking air - the outside air stays outside.
