Installing a Turtl™ Crawl Space Access System in Enfield, CT

This homeowner in Enfield, CT called us hoping that we would be able to replace his "makeshift" crawl space entrance with a new access system. Since the old thinking was that crawl spaces could have dirt floors and be vented, it was okay for access doors to be loose fitting and unsealed. Today we know that to have a comfortable, energy efficient home, free of mold, rot, bugs, and odors we must seal off all air (and water) leaks from the outside. But an old crawl space access door doesn’t do that. And wells fill up with leaves, water, and weeds grow in them, a constant maintenance issue. Open wells can also be a fall hazard. Results - Warm, humid air leaks in during summer, causing condensation all over the crawl space, cold air leaks in during winter causing cold floors above and cooling heating ducts, higher fuel and electric bills.

We had the perfect solution for this customer. The Turtl™ Crawl Space access system is an airtight door and a sealed access well in one durable unit. This highly specialized product is the only one of it’s kind manufactured anywhere and is perfect for it’s purpose. The homeowner can open the lid and crawl into their crawl space without getting wet or dirty. The Turtl™ even has a place for a lock on it, and will never rust, rot or need paint! It’s airtight and watertight and people can jump on it without a problem! Result - An airtight, watertight, durable crawl space access that keeps the home clean and healthy. Lower fuel and electric bills.

Insulating Kneewalls in Enfield, CT

This homeowner in Enfield, CT called us hoping that he would be able to get an insulation evaluation done on his Cape-style home. He wanted the entire home evaluated. The home had been under renovation for a few years, and it was time to begin the insulation. The second floor of a Cape often suffers from inadequate insulation, and air leaks from the soffits into poorly insulated kneewall spaces. This results in cold drafty rooms in winter that are harder than necessary to heat, and hot rooms in the summer as roof heat radiates in unchecked. Kneewall spaces are dusty and too cold or hot - unsuitable for clean storage.

We had the perfect solution for this customer -- our Super Kneewall™ treatment. First, our SilverGlo™ foam insulation panels are installed on the bottom of the rafters in the kneewall spaces and the ceiling joist bays are blocked and sealed with foam to stop air leakage. Then the roof slopes are dense packed with TruSoft™ cellulose insulation to stop air flow and insulate. Finally, the flat ceiling is insulated with TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. Result - rooms are comfortable all year and need much less heat and air conditioning. Drafts are eliminated as kneewall spaces are airtight and clean and suitable for storage. Summer roof heat is far less.

Insulating a Basement in Enfield, CT

This homeowner in Enfield, CT called us looking to insulate his childhood home. The home had been in the family for decades, and they were working to make it more comfortable now that he was the owner. He had almost no insulation in his basement, and he wanted to ensure that it was insulated properly for the future.

We had the perfect solution for this customer! We utilized two-part expanding spray foam. We insulated the rim joist (the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the home). We spray this foam in the rim joist and over the sill plate. Insulating the rim joist in this way seals all air leaks -- filling in the cracks and gaps that are present there. This prevents outside air from getting into the home. The homeowner is now very happy, and he is much more comfortable in his home!

Insulating an Attic in Enfield, CT

This homeowner in Enfield, CT called us about his attic and basement insulation. He was uncomfortable in his home, and had received a reminder from the state rebate program after having an audit done.

We had the perfect solution for this customer. We were able to replace the attic insulation with TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. We removed the loose fiberglass insulation with a large vacuum. We then went in and air-sealed around all of the points where air leaks up from the home to the attic. We did this using our Zypfoam™ spray foam. Once the attic was air sealed, we used a long hose to blow in TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. TruSoft™ is amazing -- it does not burn, get moldy, or attract pests. The blown-in insulation fills all gaps and oddly shaped voids. The homeowner is now much more comfortable in her home!
