Insulating a rim joist is one of the most important things you can do to start making your home more efficient. It can help lower your energy bills and make the first floor of your home more comfortable. To do this, we start by first removing the old nasty insulation from the bay spaces in the basement. Once that is done we spray the rim joist with our 2-part spray foam insulation in every bay space. We cover the entire space and the sill plate so no air from outside can be sucked inside from the basement. After this we clean up and your rim joist is insulated! No more cold floors and you will see your energy bills start to go down!

When our building science specialist got to the home, he started his inspection and found the problem areas of the home. One of the areas that needed some work was the attic. Attics are the most important area of a home to look at when making a home energy efficient. This is because almost all of the heat you pay for leaves your home through the attic. To stop this problem from occurring any longer, the first thing we have to do is remove the old fiberglass insulation. Next step is to air seal every single penetration in the attic. This is very important because what we have to remember is that insulation does not stop air leak! After we air seal everything in the attic, we start to build the catwalk. The catwalk will let the homeowners have a little extra storage and have an easy way to move around in the attic. Once this is done, we can start to blow our cellulose insulation. The department of energy recommends homes in New England to have R-60 in the attic. This means that we will blow 20 inches of our trusoft cellulose into the attic. Now that we have completed this part of the home, this house will be more comfortable and more energy efficient!

This homeowner in Simsbury, CT called us out to their home to replace old inefficient fiberglass insulation. Especially without air sealing, Fiberglass is not an efficient form of insulation. The attic also had some mold in it, which can be very unhealthy.

We removed all of the old, fiberglass insulation and properly disposed of the materials.  Next, we fog our Mold-X treatment throughout the attic to neutralize any nooks and crannies that can be affected. Now we are ready for the next step. We seal up all top plates and any areas where air can escape from the home into the attic and be lost with foam. Now we are ready to blow our Truoft Cellulose insulation into the attic. Cellulose will fill in any odd-shaped voids and gaps.
