Take a look at this home in Bolton, CT that we insulated and reduced moisture in! Watch Video »
These homeowners in Winsted, CT had cold air and humidity getting into their crawlspace and moving up into their home. Crawl spaces were previously considered to not be part of the conditioned space of a home and thus were vented and no effort was put into keeping outside air out. We now know that to have a comfortable and mold free home, the crawl space must be sealed. The access door to this crawlspace was loose fitting and uninsulated, causing air leaks and letting in moisture.
We removed the old doors and replaced them with our Everlast Crawl Space Doors with a few modifications to fit the larger frame. The doors are made of 1/2" polyethylene with weather stripping to keep the door airtight. We added our SilverGlo EPS foam board to the inside as well to add insulation value and keep heat in the home in the winter and out in the summer.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, there is still easy access to the crawlspace but cold air and moisture are staying out!
This homeowner was experiencing a significant amount of humidity in their basement. Our Building Science Expert evaluated the problem and found that using the 2-part expanding foam insulation on the rim joist and over the sill plate would be the perfect solution. This decreased the humidity in the basement and the homeowner saw immediate results. In addition to there being less humidity, the overall air leakage to the house was reduced dramatically.
This homeowner was experiencing a lot of air leakage in their attic. creating cold drafty rooms as well as heat loss in the winter. The heat loss created an increase in the cost of heating the home. By air sealing all of the gaps with our foam insulation and blowing in Dr. Energy Savers TruSoft cellulose insulation, it created a more comfortable environment for the entire home and family. Our TruSoft cellulose insulation is treated with natural borate compounds. By doing this we have created a higher R-value in the space as well as decreasing the energy costs, making the rooms below a comfortable living space for the customer and their family.
This homeowner had recently added an addition to their house and wanted to insulate it to make it into livable space.
There was no attic floor, so we started by creating a layer to blow insulation onto with our Insulweb polyethylene webbing. Once the Insulweb was in place, we secured baffles to keep ventilation to the soffit vent, marked off any electrical work with flags, and blew in our TruSoft cellulose.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this room can now be used all year round comfortably!
This homeowner called us with a rather annoying and all too familiar concern. Critters were taking over her home and she was tired of the uninvited guests. Dr. Energy Saver to the rescue!
Our Building Science Specialist went to the home and realized that luckily, it was a rather easy fix! We started out by vacuuming out all of the old Fiberglass Insulation. We then installed Closed-Cell Spray Foam Insulation along the Rim Joists in the basement to seal and to insulate. Goodbye pesky critters and hello to added energy efficiency!
End plates are at the top of every single wall in the home. The problem with end plates is there's generally a quarter inch to an inch gap left during construction of the home. This allows for air leakage which lets the cool air escape the home in the summer and warm air to escape in the winter.
When the hot air leaks into your attic in the winter, ice dams occur on your roof. Ice dams can cause thousands of dollars of damage to your home!
Air sealing end plates is the first, and most important, of multiple treatments to eliminate ice damming.
This homeowner called us because she was experiencing a lot of trouble with ice damming and overall energy efficiency. This particular homeowner happened to be friends with a previous customer of ours and was referred to us when she was discussing her issues with them. Unfortunately, Ice damming is a far too common concern for many New Englander's facing our unpredictable, often brutal weather patterns.
Our Building Science Specialist was able to quickly determine that the most effective way to handle this situation was to convert the existing, inefficiently insulated, vented attic space to an energy efficient SuperAttic™. First we removed all existing old and moldy batt insulation and treated the area with our MoldX2 Cleaner™ and MoldX2 Botanical™. The area was then ready for us to install our SuperAttic™ Advanced Conversion system with SilverGlo™ EPS panels across the roof rafter and gable end to create a conditioned area.
This home is now more energy efficient, resulting in lower energy bills, regulated airflow, and even added conditioned space in the attic that is ready for finishing! No more ice dams!
These homeowners in Stockbridge, MA were having a serious problem with their crawlspace! They have pipes running through the crawlspace and needed to have an industrial heater down there to keep the pipes from freezing in the winter. A dehumidifier was needed constantly as the crawlspace was very damp. They were also hoping to get easier access to the crawlspace, which you can learn more about here!
We first removed fiberglass insulation that had been secured to the ceiling with a sort of chicken wire that was not helping the situation. After clearing everything up, we insulated the walls with our SilverGlo insulation foam board. We then put down a plastic matting, floor insulation, and finally a vapor barrier on the floor of the crawlspace, sealed securely with fasteners and special tape.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this crawlspace is far safer for the home above as well as the utilities running through it.
This homeowner in Richmond, MA was having issues with moisture in their home. Our free energy evaluation revealed that one of the culprits was the old, inefficient door leading to the basement from the outside. These kinds of doors let in cold air during the winter, and humid air in the summer, which condenses upon reaching the cooler air of the basement and crawlspace and can cause mold.
The old door was removed and to better accommodate the new door, we installed new framing. Once that framing was up, we put in the new door equipped with weather stripping and a secure lock.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this door is keeping the cold and moisture from outside away from this basement and keeping this home safe and comfortable.
This homeowner in Lenox, MA called us to their home because they were experiencing water and moisture in their crawlspace. This home had a nasty, dirt crawlspace which most people assume does not effect your home's comfort and energy efficiency as much as it does! We got right to work.
We removed all of the old, nasty insulation any debris in the crawlspace. Now, we install our dimpled plastic drainage matting across the floor to create an airspace and thermal break. TerraBlock™ floor insulation is installed over the dimpled drainage mat. Finally, the heavy-duty, 20 mil thick CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation liner is installed permanently across the dirt floor - sealed with mechanical fasteners to the walls and spiked to the floor. This will keep water and moisture out of the crawlspace, and make this home more comfortable and energy efficient!
A Homeowner called us out to their historical home built in 1900 in Pittsfield, MA to take a look at a problem they were having. They originally called us to give a full Home Energy Evaluation to help understand what was going in in their home. The problem they were having was due to no insulation in the attic, resulting in ice damns in the winter. When we got to the home and performed our Home Energy Evaluation we noticed that there was no insulation at all in the attic. This specific style home has a sloped roof, with knee-walls in the attic that are very difficult to keep warm or cold depending on the season. This knee wall is directly above a bedroom. The lack of any insulation was making it extremely hard to cool and heat the upper level of their home, in the bedroom living spaces. This made these homeowners uncomfortable in their home all year round.
To fix this problem, we use our Super Kneewall Treatment. Since we have no old insulation to take out and dispose of, we can get right to blocking and air sealing. First, we use our 4" SilverGlo insulation boards to block off air from getting through the ceiling joists and bays. Our SilverGlo expanded foam insulation boards are infused with graphite which increases R-Value by 24%. Around those blocks, we spray our one part foam to seal the edges and make sure no air can travel through the cracks. Then, we install our SilverGlo foam boards under the rafters up to the knee-wall and also sealed with one part foam. Now we have properly sealed so that outdoor conditions can no longer effect this living space. Next, we have to dense pack the roof slopes with our TruSoft cellulose insulation to stop air flow as well as insulate this non insulated attic. Our last step is to blow our TruSoft cellulose insulation above the flat ceiling. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, these homeowners can now live more comfortable in their bedrooms all year long! They also will no longer experience ice dams!!!
This homeowner in Pittsfield, MA called us out to their home to take a look at their old basement window. They knew that it was not an efficient window, and that they were losing alot of air from their home. We got to the home and performed our Full Home Energy Evaluation to better assess the efficiency in this home. We noticed the basement window they currently had was an old single pane glass window with a metal frame, which lets in a lot of air into the home. This also gets a lot of air escape from the home by conduction through the cold glass. The window had also started rusting due to the damp environment near the ground. Since the home has low pressure at the bottom and sucks cold outside air into your home it causes a freezing cold basement and cold floors. We knew that we needed to replace this old window to increase the efficiency and comfort in this home.
To fix this window, we need to first remove the old window sashes. We install our Everlast basement window inserts and seal it airtight. Our Everlast windows feature two panes of high performance glass, which lets visible light through, but blocks the heat flow with a special metallic coating in the inside of both panes. The sash features a vinyl frame which is perfect for the damp environment of the window near the ground. This window will never rust, rot or need to be repainted. This homeowner now has a beautiful, efficient basement window thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions!!!
This homeowner called us for an estimate on finishing their garage. They decided to move forward with our Total Basement Finishing services. So, we design the layout with the homeowner, and got started.
To start this project, we removed all of the sheet rock, paint, and fiberglass from this garage. Now, we are ready for our installation! We take our patented, non organic material and customize it to fit the size of this garage. This non-organic material is waterproof, and will never rot or mold like wood could! We install our Everlast wall panels with insulation boards on the inside, on to the wall and we are all set!
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this homeowner has a beautiful, waterproof garage!
This Homeowner Called us out to her home to update their attic insulation. They were experiencing ice damming on the roof. Some spots were too hot and others were too cold. This home was insulated with old fiberglass insulation.
We removed the old inefficient fiberglass insulation in the attic. We install our blocks of Silverglo foam insulation board between the ceiling joist bays, and under the rafters. We air seal around the blocks with foam. Air is no longer able to enter and escape out of the home.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions this home is more comfortable, energy- efficient, and no longer has snow melt!
This homeowner in East Windsor, CT had issues with mold in her home but was not sure where it was coming from.
She had old, messy insulation that we removed. We then treat the attic for mold with our Mold-X2. To make sure that the problem does not persist, we ensure that the attic can vent out moisture while also sealing off any air leaks to the home below. Lastly we blow in our cellulose.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, the home is mold free AND more energy efficient!
These homeowners in Bolton, CT were having a difficult time keeping their home comfortable. They have their heating and cooling system running through the attic, which, being an unconditioned space, is prone to extreme temperatures. Given those extremes, the system has to work harder to keep the air running through the ducts at the desired temperature despite the air around it.
We used our Tight n' True Duct encapsulation system to insulate the ducts. We started with our SilverGlo insulation board on the top side of the ducts. SilverGlo is a graphite infused EPS foam board with a radiant barrier, doing double the work to stop the transfer of heat. We then spray 1 inch of closed cell spray foam insulation on the sides of the ducts. The bottom of the ducts can't be sprayed, however, once we blow our TruSoft cellulose in the attic, covering much of the duct, the space will be buried.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, the heating system doesn't have to work nearly as hard to keep the home comfortable, lowering energy costs.
This homeowner in Westfield, MA called us out to their home for a quote on upgrading their attic insulation. When we got to their home, in the attic we noticed very old, nasty fiberglass and blown-in insulation. We also noticed something more concerning, mold! Mold can be very harmful, especially to younger/older people, and pets!
To begin, we prepped the home and protect the homeowners belongings. Next, we remove all of that old, nasty fiberglass and blown-in insulation, bag it up and properly dispose of it. Now we can treat that mold! We use our MoldX2 Cleaner to kill any and all mold spores. This can be sprayed directly on effected materials, or fogged to get into all nooks and crannies. Next, we use our Mold-X2 Botanical to remove the mold stains off of effected areas. Now, we air seal any top plates with foam. Finally, we can blow in our TruSoft Cellulose insulation which fills all gaps and odd shaped voids! The last thing we do, is install an insulated scuttle cover! Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this house is more comfortable, safer, and energy efficient!
This homeowner had old, single-pane windows that were incredibly drafty in the winter, and allowed for a lot of heat to enter and A/C to escape in the summer. They were looking to upgrade not only the technology of the windows, but also wanted to add some aesthetics to the home. After meeting with our building science expert, this homeowner decided on some beautiful Sunrise Windows in a speciality color. Our team professionally installed these windows, and now this homeowner is going to experience improved thermal performance and lower energy bills - as well as a gorgeous new look to the home!
These homeowners in Enfield, CT had issues keeping their home, primarily the den, warm in the winter. There were old batts of fiberglass insulation that at one point were installed into the ceiling of the crawlspace, but were now falling off, letting cold air up into the home.
We started off by clearing out this old insulation. With the space cleared, we sealed off the rim joist, otherwise know as the perimeter of the floor framing of the house, to stop cold air from creeping in. We installed our SilverGlo graphite infused foam board onto the walls to insulate the crawlspace to keep heat in during the winter. We then got to work on the dirt floor of the crawlspace. We laid down our dimpled drainage to create an airspace and thermal break. Then we put down our TerraBlock floor insulation, and finalize our sealing off the crawlspace with our vapor barrier liner to keep moisture from getting into the crawlspace and creating any mold issues.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this home will be warmer and the den with be far more comfortable.
This homeowner in Enfield, CT was having issues with drafts in their home. Old metal framed, single pane windows allow the heat from inside the home escape both through the glass and the thermally conductive metal. A lot of air is also able to leak into the home.
We removed the old windows and installed our Everlast high efficiency vinyl window inserts. The windows feature two panes of high efficiency glass that allows light in without letting heat to escape. The vinyl on these windows will not rust, rot or need paint, making it perfect for the damp environment outside of the window!
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this house will no longer have drafts coming up into the home!
This Homeowner in Enfield, CT called us out to their home to increase the Energy Efficiency in their home. We did a full home energy evaluation. We noticed air penetrations around the rim joist or perimeter of the floor framing system.
Like most other homes, the rim joist was not insulated. It was letting in cold and dry air in the winter and hot humid air in during the summer. Which in results causes cold floors and drafty uncomfortable rooms. It also causes more condensation in the basement in the winter, and higher heating bills.
We sprayed the Rim Joist with our two part spray foam. This seals up all the gaps and cracks so air will not be able to enter the home.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this home will be far more comfortable!
This homeowner called us baffled. She couldn't figure out why despite having newer windows and doors and a new(ish) roof, she could not keep the temperature comfortable in her home.
Upon evaluation, our Building Science Specialist was able to immediately determine that the home was not properly insulated or air sealed. This home's attic and basement were in need of treatments to make this home comfortable and energy efficient.
We removed and disposed of all existing, old batt insulation and prepped for new insulation in roof and knee walls, including air sealing. We installed a Super KneeWall™ System with SilverGlo™ and dense packed with TruSoft™ Cellulose. We then treated the basement by air sealing the Rim Joists with Closed Cell Spray Foam and Installing a new, Custom Exterior Door at the bottom of the hatch stairs. The basement improvements will reduce problematic cold floors and issues with dryness, humidity and allergens. "We Fix Uncomfortable Homes!"
This Homeowner in Coventry, CT called us out to their home for an estimate to update their attic insulation. When we arrived, we saw that they had old inefficient insulation.
Over many years insulation collects dirt, dust, pollen, bugs, and all kinds of undesirable things. We began by removing the old inefficient dirty old insulation. We bagged it all up and disposed of it properly off site. We then vacuumed the attic with a giant vacuum located outside with giant filter bags, and a very long, fat hose.
Now that the attic is clean, its ready for proper air sealing and installation of clean, new, fresh trusoft insulation or one of our other Dr. Energy Saver strategies to make your home more comfortable and energy efficient.
This customer in Ellington, CT called us out because of a concern they were having in their home. Their concern was that they had very old, ineffective fiberglass insulation in the attic. Fiberglass insulation is super fluffy, and is not able to properly insulate a home on its own. Due to this, this home was way colder than it should be this winter. This was caused by the lack of proper insulation. Without proper insulation air can leak into your attic and out of your home, making it difficult and costly to keep a home warm.
To fix this, we use our SuperPlatform treatment. First we need to remove the existing insulation. Our installers remove all of the old insulation, bag it up, and properly dispose of the materials. Since this home contains an HVAC system in their attic we have make sure there is a proper walkway, or catwalk in the attic. This makes it so that service can be done correctly and safely in a space where there are mechanics. Next, we lay our 4" SilverGlo foam board across the wooded walkway. This will increase the insulation value by 24%. We want to make sure that none of the blown in insulation we are installing will get on to our new walkway. Next, we have to install plywood over the foam board held in place by long screws and washers. Following this step, we dense pack TruSoft cellulose insulation into any space beneath the catwalk that is not filled.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this customer is warmer and ecstatic with the temperature in their home!
These homeowners in East Longmeadow, MA had issues with drafts in their home. One of the sources of these drafts was a whole house fan. Before air conditioning was common in homes, whole house fans were installed in the floor of the attic to pull warm air inside the home out and allow for cooler air to come in through opened windows. With air conditioning, there is no longer a need for such a fan, which is now just another spot for the air the homeowner pays to heat and cool to leak into the attic and out through the vents to the outside.
To seal the fan off, we use our David Lewis Whole House Fan Cover. The cover is made of our SilverGlo graphite infuse insulation board and sealed with expanding foam. The homeowners let us know that they may want to use the fan in the future, so we cut a removable lid out of the top piece of foam board which can easily be taken off whenever the fan is going to be used.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this home is less drafty and the homeowners still have options available for cooling their home in the summer.
This homeowner in Hampden, MA called us out to their home for a Free Home Energy Evaluation to see how we could make their home more energy-efficient. They were having concerns with cold floors and drafty rooms. One thing we noticed was that the basement door to exit the home was very old, uninsulated, and inefficient. The hatch doors that cover them are completely uninsulated as well. This allows massive amounts of air to leak in and out of the home creating cold floors and drafts.
We removed the old, inefficient door. Next, we install a new insulated basement door with proper framing and weatherstripping. Now, this will stop air from leaking into or out of the home in this area.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy solutions this home is one step closer to optimum energy efficiency.
This homeowner in South Hadley, MA contacted us about having old insulation in the attic which needed to be replaced. As you can see, the previous insulation only barely made it up as high as the joist, which on average is 8 to 10 inches, only half of what is required for a home!
We removed this insulation and sealed any air leaks that were present to ensure that none of the air this homeowner pays to heat will escape through the top of the house. We the installed 20 full inches of our TruSoft cellulose insulation. We also created a catwalk to make it safe and easy to reach heating and cooling equipment that resides in the attic.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver this homeowner can live more comfortably and enjoy having lower energy costs!
These homeowners in Northampton, MA wanted to make their home more energy efficient as well as eliminate moisture coming up from their dirt crawlspace.
Our first step with crawlspaces is to make sure that outside air and temperatures can't get in. We sealed the rim joist and any vents letting in drafts as well as installing our SilverGlo graphite infused EPS foam board with a radiant barrier facing to make sure the cold cannot get in through the walls. We then seal off the floor, starting with a dimpled matting to create air space and a thermal break. Then we put down our TerraBlock floor insulation, and seal the floor off with a vapor barrier liner.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, these homeowners will be paying less to keep their home comfortable and will not have to worry about moisture getting in!
This homeowner in Ludlow, MA was working towards getting her home in better condition. She knew that the crawlspace had not been well maintained and knew that it had to get an overhaul. An improperly insulated and air sealed crawlspace can lead to cold floors and even mold if left unchecked.
We began by cleaning out the old insulation and any animal droppings that were present in the crawlspace. We then installed our SilverGlo EPS foam board on the walls, installed insulation and a vapor barrier to the floor, and lastly sealed the rim joist with spray foam.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this home is more comfortable and energy efficient.
This Homeowner called us out to their home to take a look at their attic. They had the old insulation removed and now needed new insulation installed. Our Building Science Specialist arrived and evaluated the attic and gave them the best options for insulating and air sealing their attic.
When the installers arrived they cleaned and vaccuumed the attic to remove all dust and debris from the previously installed old inefficent insulation. Next they air sealed the many various points where air from your home leaks up into your attic and is lost. Then We Installed our Blown-in premium TruSoft cellulose insulation, which fills all gaps and odd shaped voids.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver this homeowner will now have lower fuel and electric bills. a more comfortable, less drafty home.
