Dr. Energy Saver CT/MA does good quality work, and has excellent employees who provide quality service. Living in this region, you really owe it to yourself to get their free home energy audit, and see any potential areas you are losing energy efficiency in your home! My family and I first hired Dr. Energy Saver in February 2019. What I appreciated most about our initial consultation was that there was no pressure to sign up for anything and/or everything all at once, it really focused on education for me as a home owner (new homeowner at the time). We ultimately decided on upgrades to our attic insulation, following their "A,B,C" model. In this model, the attic is first priority and has most impact, and for us we were not in a position financially to make all upgrades they recommended at the same time. We have a Cape style home, and got their super knee wall treatment, as well as air seal, and blown cellulose in the attic. From start to finish, their team was professional and courteous. They even paused the project to show me a mold issue in the attic, offer a solution, and waited until I had signed the adjustment to complete the work (this is a common theme, they will not alter their service agreement/add costs without consulting you first). After the attic upgrades, the difference was immediate. The upstairs was always colder in winter, hotter in summer (even with central air). Our energy savings was around 40% after the attic insulation, in terms of cost, and also energy usage (we looked at consumption of gas and electricity year over year). Based on the performance of the attic, we hired Dr. Energy Saver again in Fall 2020, to upgrade our basement. In our basement, we had complete rim joist and foundation insulation, replacement windows, and also (again) mold remediation. My wife always said the basement bothered her asthma, after this treatment that issue is no more. Our basement this winter stays between 55-60 degrees, even if it is 0 degrees outside. Before Dr. Energy Saver, our basement could be as cold as 40-45 degrees...great for keeping Scotch cold, but you'd need to go upstairs to drink it. We can't say enough good things about this company, from top to bottom. I can also say as a repeat customer that they will always follow up with you, and if any issues or concerns come up during or after your project, they will make it right. If any parts of your home are hot in summer, too cold in winter, give them a call!

Installing a SuperAtticâ„¢ Advanced Conversion System in Monterey, MA

This homeowner called us because she was experiencing a lot of trouble with ice damming and overall energy efficiency. This particular homeowner happened to be friends with a previous customer of ours and was referred to us when she was discussing her issues with them. Unfortunately, Ice damming is a far too common concern for many New Englander's facing our unpredictable, often brutal weather patterns.

Our Building Science Specialist was able to quickly determine that the most effective way to handle this situation was to convert the existing, inefficiently insulated, vented attic space to an energy efficient SuperAttic™. First we removed all existing old and moldy batt insulation and treated the area with our MoldX2 Cleaner™ and MoldX2 Botanical™. The area was then ready for us to install our SuperAttic™ Advanced Conversion system with SilverGlo™ EPS panels across the roof rafter and gable end to create a conditioned area.

This home is now more energy efficient, resulting in lower energy bills, regulated airflow, and even added conditioned space in the attic that is ready for finishing! No more ice dams!

This homeowner in Newington, CT called us out to their home to remove and replace the insulation in their attic. Their attic was full of old, nasty, fiberglass insulation. Pictured is a knee-wall space before and after. We sent our production team out to help these homeowners. First, we removed all of the old fiberglass insulation in the brown paper bag- looking material as pictured. We make sure to vacuum up and any all left over insulation or debris. Now, we install SilverGlo foam insulation board between the ceiling joist bays. On the outside, we air seal with one part spray foam. We also install SilverGlo under the rafters. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this space now has a radiant barrier, is fully insulated and air sealed.

These homeowners in Stockbridge, MA were having a serious problem with their crawlspace! They have pipes running through the crawlspace and needed to have an industrial heater down there to keep the pipes from freezing in the winter. A dehumidifier was needed constantly as the crawlspace was very damp. They were also hoping to get easier access to the crawlspace, which you can learn more about here!

We first removed fiberglass insulation that had been secured to the ceiling with a sort of chicken wire that was not helping the situation. After clearing everything up, we insulated the walls with our SilverGlo insulation foam board. We then put down a plastic matting, floor insulation, and finally a vapor barrier on the floor of the crawlspace, sealed securely with fasteners and special tape.

Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this crawlspace is far safer for the home above as well as the utilities running through it.

This homeowner in Simsbury, CT called us out to their home to replace old inefficient fiberglass insulation. Especially without air sealing, Fiberglass is not an efficient form of insulation. The attic also had some mold in it, which can be very unhealthy.

We removed all of the old, fiberglass insulation and properly disposed of the materials.  Next, we fog our Mold-X treatment throughout the attic to neutralize any nooks and crannies that can be affected. Now we are ready for the next step. We seal up all top plates and any areas where air can escape from the home into the attic and be lost with foam. Now we are ready to blow our Truoft Cellulose insulation into the attic. Cellulose will fill in any odd-shaped voids and gaps.

Lowering Bills and Making a Home More Energy Efficient in Lee, MA

These homeowners called because they were looking to have a full energy evaluation done to see where they can save money and improve energy efficiency.

Our Building Science Specialist arrived at the home and sat with the homeowners to get a good idea of their main concerns and come up with a general plan. Upon evaluation, we discovered that the attic area was filled with old, dirty, inefficient and moldy batt insulation which would need to be removed, the area thoroughly cleaned and treated with MoldX and add enough new, TruSoft blown cellulose insulation to bring the home to meet today's energy efficiency standards. We used 4" SilverGlo along the attic deck and vertical walls. Our specialist also discovered we would need to extend the existing bathroom vent fan out through the roof to further prevent moisture and mold into the attic. We also installed a David Lewis Attic Pull-Down Stair Hatch Cover to properly insulate and air seal the entrance to the attic.

Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions was able to completely remedy the problem and create a satisfactory, energy efficient solution to give the homeowners piece of mind and reach their ultimate goal of saving money on energy usage!

Dr. Energy Saver went into the affected area and fully removed the existing insulation. We prepared the attic for installation of fresh, clean insulation. We Installed a SuperKneeWall™ Upgrade - Install SilverGlo™ EPS foam board with radiant barrier along roof line, gable end(s) and blocking between floor joists. We then Installed SilverGlo™ on the roof deck.

This homeowner can now enjoy a rodent free home with much better energy efficiency and lower energy bills to boot!

Given the extreme temperatures in attics, the system has to work double time to keep the air running through the ducts cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

To help keep the ducts safe from those extremes, we used our Tight N' True duct encapsulation system. The spray foam air seals as it insulates to make sure no energy is lost. Once done and cured, we are able to blow our TruSoft cellulose into the attic, right up against those ducts.

This home had some old, inefficient fiberglass without air any sealing in their attic. This allows conditioned or heated air that is paid for to escape the home. They also had an un-insulated HVAC system in the attic, which makes for major heat loss!

We first removed all of the old, fiberglass insulation and properly disposed of the materials. Now, we get to sprayfoaming the HVAC system. It is important to keep the heat coming off of it from entering the attic. Now we seal up all top plates, end plates, and any areas where air can escape from the home into the attic and be lost with foam.

This homeowner wanted to be able to still have a storage area so we built them an insulated catwalk space for them. Now, blow our TruSoft Cellulose insulation into the attic. Once the space was clean, we installed our SilverGlo graphite infused EPS foam with radiant barrier to keep the heat from the roof out and the heat from the home in. Lastly, we sealed the spaces between the boards.

This Homeowner in Windsor Locks, CT was putting away storage during the holidays and realized that the attic was not properly insulated. They were running ducts through the attic which is vented. The ducts were being exposed to extreme temperatures making it tougher to heat and cool the home. They also had a mold issue, which can be very dangerous!

The old, fiberglass insulation in their attic was ineffective and needed to be removed completely. We removed the insulation and the attic was vacuumed. Then, we spray our Mold-X2 to to kill and stop all mold spores from growing! Now, we had a clean work space, to start installing the foam insulation board. We got to work installing our SilverGlo graphite infused foam insulation board, across the roof rafter and Gable end. The foil on the foam board reflects heat out in summer, and keeps the warm air in during winter. The roof is still vented, and stays cold in winter to prevent ice damming. Now the attic is a conditioned space, and the ducts don't have to work so hard because the environment is at a maintained temperature. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, these homeowners will have a more comfortable home, lower energy bills and a storage space in the attic!

These homeowners in Bolton, CT were having a difficult time keeping their home comfortable. They have their heating and cooling system running through the attic, which, being an unconditioned space, is prone to extreme temperatures. Given those extremes, the system has to work harder to keep the air running through the ducts at the desired temperature despite the air around it.

We used our Tight n' True Duct encapsulation system to insulate the ducts. We started with our SilverGlo insulation board on the top side of the ducts. SilverGlo is a graphite infused EPS foam board with a radiant barrier, doing double the work to stop the transfer of heat. We then spray 1 inch of closed cell spray foam insulation on the sides of the ducts. The bottom of the ducts can't be sprayed, however, once we blow our TruSoft cellulose in the attic, covering much of the duct, the space will be buried.

Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, the heating system doesn't have to work nearly as hard to keep the home comfortable, lowering energy costs.

This Homeowner in Enfield, CT called us out to their home to increase the Energy Efficiency in their home. We did a full home energy evaluation. We noticed air penetrations around the rim joist or perimeter of the floor framing system.

Like most other homes, the rim joist was not insulated. It was letting in cold and dry air in the winter and hot humid air in during the summer. Which in results causes cold floors and drafty uncomfortable rooms. It also causes more condensation in the basement in the winter, and higher heating bills.

We sprayed the Rim Joist with our two part spray foam. This seals up all the gaps and cracks so air will not be able to enter the home.

Fiberglass insulation is very fluffy and allows air to easily seep through, and exit or enter the home. The attic is always the first priority in regards to insulation.

First we needed to remove all of the old, nasty fiberglass insulation. We remove, bag up, and properly dispose of the old insulation. We do our air sealing before we install new insulation. This is because without air sealing you are not properly sealing the home up. We air seal all of the top plates with one-part fire retardant foam. Now we can insulate! We blow in our TruSoft cellulose insulation, this fills all of the gaps, cracks, and odd shaped voids in the attic.

Our Building Science Specialist was able to do a whole home evaluation based on the issues at hand and came up with the following solutions: First we would remove and dispose of old, dirty existing batt insulation in the attic and prep for fresh, clean insulation. Next we would extend the bath vent and duct bath fan through the gable end and to the outside so the air is no longer feeding into the attic and creating lots of moisture and mold. We air sealed and insulated the scuttle cover. Replacing Old Insulation Under Home in Belchertown, MA

This homeowner called us to his home for a basement and crawlspace evaluation. We noticed the vented crawlspace had insulation falling. This can be caused by the vents that in the winter season let cold air into the home, which causes the insulation to sag away from the sub floor and cold air then gets above it. In the summer, vents let warm humid air in, which is cooled by the subterranean crawl space which causes relative humidity to go way up! Condensation can form all over the crawlspace surfaces, supporting mold!

We removed and properly disposed the damaged and moldy insulation. We insulated the walls with Silverglo foam boards. We then began the encapsulation process installed a dimpled plastic drainage matting across the floor to create a airspace and thermal break, and terrablock floor insulation is installed over it. We then installed an encapsulation liner over permanently across the floor and sealed it with mechanical fasteners to the walls and spiked to the floor. Cleanspace features ultrafresh anti- microbial ingredients in the product. We then added spray foam insulation to the walls and rim joist!

Thanks to Dr Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this house will have much lower humidity, much warmer floors upstairs, less drafts, a more comfortable house, lower fuel and electric bills!!

    Cold Floors in Woodstock, CT

These homeowners in Woodstock, CT had issues with their home being cold. One of the main issues was cold air coming up through their open crawlspace. There was batt insulation in the crawlspace ceiling, but as often happens with batts, it was beginning to sag, leaving space for cold air to get up into the floors and up through the home. This issue would only get worse over time if left unchecked and the cycle will only continue if batt insulation is reinstalled.

We began by pulling out the batted insulation. We then installed our SilverGlo insulation foam across the bottom of the floor joists, or some may call the crawlspace ceiling. The foam is rigid and will not sag or pull away from the joists, there is also a radiant barrier facing on the SilverGlo which will stop conductive heat loss by keeping the warm air inside the home in. The SilverGlo is fastened into place with special long screws and any spaces between them are sealed with expanding foam.

Thanks Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy, this home is far more comfortable.

Increasing the Insulation Value Under a Home in Leverett, MA

This new homeowner in Leverett, MA wanted to make sure her home was energy efficient and ready for winter before moving in. There was a thin, brittle foam board on the underside of the home which clearly would not hold up over time or have as much insulation value as needed.

We took out the old foam boards and replaced them with our 4-inch SilverGlo foam board insulation held into place with special long screws. SilverGlo has a radiant barrier face to ensure the insulation isn't doing all the work on its own. Any seams were sealed with foam, and in this case, we also sprayed load bearing beams set below the foam boards to stop conduction to and from the home.

Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this homeowner will have a home that will brave the winter comfortably.

Making a Home More Comfortable in Thompson, CT

This homeowner in Thompson, CT called us to their home to help with cold floors and humidity. This home had a nasty, dirt crawlspace that was impacting those concerns!

First, we remove all of the old, nasty insulation any debris in the crawlspace. Next, we install our dimpled plastic drainage matting across the floor to create an airspace and thermal break. TerraBlock™ floor insulation is installed over the dimpled drainage mat. Now, our heavy-duty, 20 mil thick CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation liner is installed permanently across the dirt floor. It is sealed with mechanical fasteners to the walls and spiked to the floor. This will drastically reduce the cold floors and keep water and moisture out of the crawlspace, and make this home more comfortable and energy efficient!
