Installing an Insulated Storage Deck in Southington, CT

Installing an Insulated Storage Deck in Southington, CT Installing an Insulated Storage Deck in Southington, CT

This homeowner in Southington, CT called us after discovering a mold issue in his home. When our Home Comfort Specialist came out to the home, he noticed that a large contributor to the mold was that there was inadequate insulation. Additionally, this homeowner had a storage deck that he used that was not insulated and hard to get insulation under.

We were able to help this customer. We removed the old deck in the attic and replaced it with our SuperPlatform™ insulated storage deck. The SuperPlatform™ is comprised of two materials -- our SilverGlo™ graphite-infused foam insulation board as well as OSB board over the top. Once the attic floor was clear and prepared, we got to work on building the SuperPlatform™. SilverGlo™ is laid down first, creating the base of the deck. Once that is secured in place, we installed OSB over the SilverGlo™, ensuring that it was secure as well. We then installed more OSB to create a dam -- this dam reached up approximately 18" above the attic floor. This meant that when we insulated the attic with other treatments, the insulation would not get on the deck. Now, the homeowner can continue to use the attic for storage, with all of the bonuses of proper insulation!

This homeowner in Southington, CT called us stating that his home's radon level came out to 9 pCi/L. This is higher than the EPA's radon action level of 4 pCi/L, which concerned him quite a lot. He wanted to install a mitigation system in order to lower his levels as soon as possible. Our radon measurement specialist came out to the home and identified the best spot for the mitigation system.

We were able to help this customer. We installed a radon mitigation system in his home. We began by drilling the holes in the basement -- both in the concrete slab in the bottom and the hole for the exterior penetration. He then began installing the pipes and secured them inside the basement. He installed the manometer on the pipe on the inside of the home. The manometer measures the pressure of the radon in the system, indicating whether or not it is functioning correctly. After that, he went outside to build the rest of the system. He installed the fan on the outside of the home. Once the system was installed, he went back inside, sealing around all of the cracks and gaps in the basement. He also sealed all of the holes that had been drilled for the system. Now, this homeowner has a system designed to keep the radon levels in his home low!

Job Stories From Southington, CT
Installing a Radon Mitigation System in Southington, CT

This homeowner in Southington, CT called us hoping that we would be able to help him with his home. He wanted to get a radon mitigation system installed. He said that his radon level was 9.06 pCi/L on average -- much higher than the EPA's radon action level of 4 pCi/L. He wanted to get it fixed quickly as he was concerned about the health and safety of his family. Our certified radon measurement specialist came out to the home and evaluated it. He found the ideal space for a mitigation system.

We were able to help this customer. We installed a radon mitigation system in his home. We began by drilling a hole in the concrete floor of the basement as well as in the rim joist, where it was going to go out to the exterior of the home. He built the pipes out, starting in the hole and the floor and building them up to the rim joist. He secured them to the wall. He then installed a manometer to the interior pipe. The manometer measures the pressure of the radon gas in the mitigation system, indicating whether or not the system is functioning correctly). Once the pipe was built out, the radon mitigation technician went outside to continue building out the system. He installed the fan and continued building the pipes out, securing them as well. After it was fully installed, he sealed around the system, and then went inside to seal the gaps and cracks in the basement. He tested the system. Now, the homeowner has a brand new mitigation system, and he is feeling a lot more confident in his home!

Removing Insulation in an Attic in Southington, CT

This homeowner in Southington, CT reached out to us hoping that we would be able to help out with the mold in his attic. When our Home Comfort Specialist came out to the home, he did an evaluation that found that the home did not have adequate insulation in the attic. The insulation they did have was nasty, as most older insulation is - it was covered in mold, dirt, and rodent droppings.

We were able to help this homeowner. Before we could do anything else, though, we needed to remove all of the insulation from the attic. He had yellow fiberglass batt insulation. Therefore, in order to remove it, we simply had to pick it up, bag it, and remove it from the attic so it could be safely disposed of. We then vacuumed up all of the remaining pieces and the dust left behind using a long hose.

Now, the attic is ready for its next solution!

Insulating a Basement in Southington, CT

This homeowner called us hoping to get her home insulated. They were creating a new addition to their home, but wanted the old insulation replaced as well. When we arrived at the home, we noted that the basement insulation was inefficient. The joints and gaps between all the framing members allow for a lot of air leakage into the house. Basement ceiling insulation, especially fiberglass batts, doesn’t stop the flow of cold air into a home. Results - cold floors, drafty, uncomfortable rooms, cold basement/lower level, higher heating and cooling bills and more condensation in the basement or crawl space in the summer.

Fogarty's Home Services had the perfect solution for this customer. Two part expanding spray foam was installed on the rim joist and over the sill plate to seal all air leaks from the outside and insulate this important area of the home. (The “rim joist” is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house.) The rim joist is seldom insulated and never air sealed, so this treatment will help tremendously. Our spray foam has a high insulation value per inch of R7, and because it expands, it seals all cracks and gaps and joints where air from the outside enters the home. Results - warmer floors, less drafts, more comfortable rooms, the house is easier to heat and costs less to heat, less summertime condensation on cold basement surfaces.
