Activating a Radon Mitigation System in Rutland, MA Activating a Radon Mitigation System in Rutland, MA

This homeowner in Rutland, MA called us hoping that we would be able to help him with testing his home for radon. He wanted to install a mitigation system after testing. However, when our certified radon measurement specialist came out to the home, he noted that there was already a passive radon system installed. When his test came back, the radon measurement specialist found that the homeowner's radon levels came out to 13.1 pCi/L.

We were able to help this customer. The existing radon system was completely internal -- it was routed up into the attic and out through the roof. We were able to help by adding a radon mitigation fan. This was added to the pipes in the attic. We also replaced the manometer in the basement with a brand new one. (The manometer measures the pressure of the radon gas in the pipe. We tested the system and were done! Now, this homeowner has a functioning radon mitigation system again, and he feels much better about his exposure.

Job Stories From Rutland, MA
Insulating an Attic in Rutland, MA

This homeowner in Rutland, MA called us hoping to talk about attic insulation. He was in the process of renovating the house that his grandparents built a century ago. They had added an addition at some point, and both the main home and the addition needed to be re-insulated. He wanted to renovate the home in order to move back in.

We had the perfect solution for this homeowner. Adding insulation in an attic without sealing all air leaks first should never be done, because it is just burying air leaks and making them impossible to seal later - and insulation DOES NOT STOP air leaks. That’s why, in this solution, we first carefully air seal the many various points where air from the home leaks up into the attic and is lost. Our premium TruSoft™ cellulose insulation is blown to the optimum R-value (typically R60). TruSoft™ will not burn, get moldy, or attract pests. Blown insulation fills all gaps and odd shaped voids, and by filling over framing members, “thermal bridging” is avoided.

Testing a Home for Radon in Rutland, MA

This homeowner in Rutland, MA called us looking for radon testing. He had a pre-installed passive radon system. However, was very concerned about radon exposure, as the home had not been tested since the radon system was installed at the time the home was built -- almost 10 years before! He was especially concerned about his young children and the health and safety of his family.

We had the perfect solution for this customer. We tested the home's radon levels using our AirThings Corentium Pro radon monitor. This test was set up in the living room on the first floor of their home, as their basement was not actively being used as living space. When we picked up the test a few days later, our certified radon measurement specialist analyzed the results. He found that over those days, the average radon level in the home was 13.1 pCi/L -- and even got to 20 pCi/L at one point! This is much higher than the EPA's radon action level of 4 pCi/L. This prompted the homeowner to decide to activate his passive radon system to ensure that his levels were as low as possible.

Replacing a Radon Mitigation System in Rutland, MA

This homeowner in Rutland, MA called us hoping that we would be able to help him. He wanted his radon levels tested and was looking to get a mitigation system installed. Upon inspection of the home, our Home Comfort Specialist noted that there was a passive radon mitigation system installed. We were able to test his radon levels, which came out to 13.1 pCi/L. The homeowner was very concerned about this. He wanted to reduce his radon level down to 2 pCi/L or below.

We were able to help this customer. The radon mitigation system already in the home was routed from the basement, behind the wall, into the attic, and out through the roof. This system was a passive radon mitigation system, so there was no fan pulling the radon from the home. We were able to utilize the old passive system and make it an active radon mitigation system. We did this by adding the fan to the existing radon system. We detached some pipes, added the fan, and replaced the pipes. After plugging in the fan, we ensured that it worked. Now, this homeowner is much more happy, and their radon levels are lower!
