Spray Foam to Seal and Insulate Rim Joists in Florida, MA

The “rim joist” is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house. The joints and gaps between all the framing members allow for a lot of air leakage into the house. The rim joist is seldom insulated and never air sealed. Basement ceiling insulation, especially fiberglass batts, doesn’t stop the flow of cold air into your home. Cold floors, drafty, uncomfortable rooms, cold basement/lower level, higher heating and cooling bills and more condensation in the basement or crawl space in the summer are all results of a leaky or poorly insulated rim joist.

Fogarty's Home Services provides a solution that is a two part expanding spray foam that is installed on rim joist and over sill plate to seal all air leaks from the outside and insulate this important area of your home. Our spray foam has a high insulation value per inch of R7, and because it expands, it seals all cracks and gaps and joints where air from the outside enters your home.  The results are warmer floors, less drafts, more comfortable rooms, your house is easier to heat and costs less to heat, less summertime condensation on cold basement surfaces.

Rim Joist Sprayed to Seal and Insulate

With rim joist not being insulated or air sealed Fogarty's Home Services uses a two part spray foam to insulate the rim joist and steal plates. Insulating the rim joist seals all cracks and gaps and joints preventing air leaks from the outside an insulating the important area of their home.

Keeping the "Critters" out in W. Stockbridge, MA

This homeowner called us with a rather annoying and all too familiar concern. Critters were taking over her home and she was tired of the uninvited guests. Dr. Energy Saver to the rescue!

Our Building Science Specialist went to the home and realized that luckily, it was a rather easy fix! We started out by vacuuming out all of the old Fiberglass Insulation. We then installed Closed-Cell Spray Foam Insulation along the Rim Joists in the basement to seal and to insulate. Goodbye pesky critters and hello to added energy efficiency!

Making a Home More Comfortable in the Summer in North Granby, CT

This customer in North Granby, CT called us out to help them understand a problem they were having in their home. The problem was that they could not keep their home cool in the summer not matter what. This was due to a lack of appropriate insulation in their cathedral style attic. This home had fiberglass and cotton insulation which is fluffy and easily allows air and heat to leak. This style home has rooms that are exposed to hostile attic temperatures. These homeowners were uncomfortable in their homes during the winter and summer due to significantly hot and cold rooms.

To fix this we need to properly remove and dispose of the old, fiberglass and cotton insulation. We remove the insulation and place it in bags to safely dispose of the materials. Next we install our SilverGlo. We measure and cut our 4' SilverGlo to fit. SilverGlo insulation is composed of foam boards infused with graphite, which produces a 24% increased R-Value. We install our foam board and secure the pieces with heavy duty screws and washers to keep them in place. We spray our one-part foam between each piece of SilverGlo to make sure there are no areas where heat and air can still escape.  Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, these customers can live energy efficiently, and stay cool this summer!

Increasing Energy Efficiency in Windsor, CT

This homeowner in Windsor, CT called us out to their home to update their insulation and increase overall energy efficiency. We noticed they did not have much insulation in the basement. Along the rim joists around the perimeter of the home in the basement, a lot of air is able to escape out of and enter the home. Since the cold, concrete walls of the basement are buried in the ground they tend to be about 17° cooler than than your home should be. In the summer this allows warm, humid air into your basement, hitting the cold concrete walls. This will cause condensation, supporting mold.

We got right to the home, prepped and protected the customers belongings and got to work. First,we install our Foamax insulation boards along the concrete walls. Now, we install our spray foam insulation around the perimeter of the home on the rim joist. Since it expands, it fills in all gaps, cracks and joints air was able to leak into the home before.

Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver, these homeowners are more comfortable, happy, and more energy efficient in their homes!
