Giving Thanks in 2023 with Fogarty's Home Services
2023-11-22T00:00:00.05Z
Fogarty's Home Services team
We partnered with teams in Connecticut and Massachusetts to provide turkeys for Thanksgiving.

Yesterday, November 21, 2023 we continued our participation in two turkey drives. Every year, we help charities in Connecticut and Massachusetts by lending our time, trucks, and manpower to help deliver turkeys before Thanksgiving.

We were able to help bring turkeys from the Connecticut Foodshare to the Life Church in Granby, CT. After that, we were able to help volunteers at the church put together Thanksgiving meals for families in the area.

Next to him are boxes full of carrots, potatoes, and turkeys. " width="640" height="360" />

After we were done at the church, our team traveled up to Pittsfield, MA to help the Western Massachusetts Labor Action. We stocked a truck full of food and delivered it to different residents of Berkshire county who were in need of a meal this holiday season.

We were so thankful to be able to help people this holiday season. As we look toward 2024, we are hoping to see more friends and neighbors join us in helping causes important to their communities.

Fogarty's Home Services Attends CN Live 2023!
2023-10-13T00:00:00.05Z
Elizabeth Marshall
FHS attended CN Live 2023, receiving four awards for our excellence and learning valuable tips from dealers all across the country!

Fogarty's Home Services recently attended the CN Live 2023 convention, hosted by Contractor Nation on October 6th and 7th, 2023. It was held at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, CT as well as the Contractor Nation campus in Seymour, CT.

The day was kicked off with breakfast with all of the dealers attending. This was followed swiftly by the opening session of the conference. The opening speaker was Larry Janesky, the CEO and founder of Contractor Nation, Dr. Energy Saver, Total Basement Finishing, and more.

Another amazing speaker featured at the convention was David Horsager, who taught the crowd about the necessary steps to build trust in our personal lives, businesses, and communities.

In this general session, Fogarty's was presented with the 2023 Impact Award for our category. This is an amazing achievement -- given to the select few dealers across the country who show a commitment to caring for their communities. With hundreds of dealers nationwide, this is no small feat, and we were honored to be presented with this award for our annual turkey drive.

<img src="https://cdn.treehouseinternetgroup.com/uploads/blog/3283/medium/552f0add0b937f9a20231013-77-vuffgl_1697222122.jpg" alt="Another photograph of the stage.

Jodi Fogarty accepted the award on behalf of the team.

This session was followed up by several classes, broken into sessions based on topic.

Our Home Comfort Specialist, Mark Rogerson, was a presenter during a class about sales. He was able to speak to the crowd of dealers from across the country who were interested in learning more about what we help homeowners with every day, and how he helps them.

Our marketing team also received an award during these classes for the best Meet the Team page out of all of the dealerships in the nation.

It reads 'Widget Contest: Best Meet the Team Page Presented to Fogarty's Home Services'" width="640" height="480" />

The night ended with a large awards banquet hosted by Contractor Nation. Fogarty's Home Services was proud to receive our third and fourth awards of the day during this banquet for being some of the top dealers in the country in our divisions. These divisions are Dr. Energy Saver and Total Basement Finishing, where we are #9 in the country and #10 in the country, respectively.

How Fogarty's Home Services Removed the Attic Insulation in Great Barrington, MA

The old attic insulation had to be stripped and disposed of in this homeowner's attic. MoldX2 cleaner and MoldX2 botanical were sprayed on the affected areas in the attic in accordance with repair instructions to get rid of the mold. In addition, we needed to seal the chimney chase with metal flashing, and fire caulk, and wrap it with rock wool boards. An air leak in a house is typically caused by a chimney that isn't properly ventilated. Before installing our TruSoft Cellulose insulation, we had to seal all accessible penetrations and top plates with our expanding foam. By the time the home is finished, it will be more comfortable, mold-free, and cost less to operate.

Following a free evaluation by our building science specialist. During the inspection, they realized the homeowner needed his attic insulation removed. Several areas had air leaks, including the hatch cover, chimney, and around the wiring. To kill the mold in the attic, the homeowner needs mold treatment.

The homeowner is thrilled with his new basement and looking forward to buying furniture and TVs for the wall.

The first step in preparing this basement for Total Basement Finishing was the removal of all moldy damaged insulation. New insulation was the next course of action and we installed our Foamax boards and spray-foamed the rim joist to prevent air leakage. After the previous steps mentioned the basement was ready for the Total Basement finishing installation. The Basement was ripped out up to 700 SF with decorative posts surrounding partition walls with metal studs installed. The metal framing helps with any potential water damage creating mold. Wood beams as an organic material feed mold and we wanted to stop that from happening. Fogarty's Home service continued the process by installing a half bathroom, recessed can light, thermal dry plank floor (waterproof), outlets, switches, and jacks. It doesn't stop there we installed panel primed doors, finished drop ceiling, and everlast sliding basement windows. We left this job with a pleased homeowner ready to decorate his basement!

A homeowner looking to finish his basement. This was his parent's home which had a water problem in the basement. It flooded and got mold everywhere and is now ripped down to the studs. He was looking for ideas on basement finishing.

The basement was just a basement this homeowner wanted to transform his basement into a beautiful one with Fogarty's home services Total Basement Finishing System. Due to the basement being flooded in the past and mold growth accumulation. The homeowner had no choice but to strip the basement down to the framing. This wasn't the condition the homeowner wanted to keep the condition of his basement in after the damage was fixed. He wanted a Total Basement Finishing and wanted to have additional living space in his home. Fogarty's Home Services took on the Challenge of helping the homeowner with his mold and damaged basement and finishing it.

Fogarty's Home Services

Fogarty's Home Services helped this home with mold removal, lowering the humidity and making this home much warmer and more comfortable for the winter and summer!

Fogarty's Home Services will remove existing fiberglass batts from your crawl space. It's not fun laying on your back in a tight crawl space. Insulation has hostile fibers when it's disturbed. The insulation is very bulky and takes up a tremendous amount of space in trucks and our dumpsters which must be emptied. But it's necessary to have a healthy home in the end. After we Foamax insulation boards then begin our crawl space encapsulation system. Your vents are sealed up, and a dimpled, plastic drainage matting is installed don't the floor to create a space and thermal break. Then Terrablock foam floor insulation is installed over the drainage matting across the entire floor. A heavy-duty 20 mil thick liner is installed across the floor over the drainage matting and up the walls, sealed with mechanical fasteners to the walls, and spiked to the floor. Our crawl space line features UltraFresh anti-microbial ingredients in the product. Finally, closed-cell spray foam is installed from the bottom of the walls, over the sill plate, and on top of the rim joist. Speaking of the rim Joist we seal the rim joist with two-part spray foam preventing air leaks. We installed a crawl space door that will last forever helping to prevent air leakage, less condensation, and a more comfortable home. To top it off we installed our Sanidry Sedona crawl space air system. The dehumidifier and air filtration system are in one unit. It's made especially for crawl spaces, stopping mold growth, lowering humidity, order reduction and helping with lower air conditions cost, and helping upstairs to be dryer.

This homeowner's crawlspace developed mold and had dirty insulation from sagging down from the crawlspace ceiling, cold floors, and drafts making the home uncomfortable.

In the winter under-insulated crawl spaces let cold air directly into your home. Crawlspace insulation after time sags down from the subfloor and cold air get above it - rendering the insulation useless. Fiberglass batt insulation has paper facing and organic material in the resin used to set the fibers into the batt - both are mold food. In the summer relative humidity goes way up and condensation forms all over the crawl space surfaces including floor joists and ducts.

The homeowners experienced mold growth due to the condensation development. Musty orders after a while could be noticed upstairs as mold spores travel upward to the living space. An unending stream of water vapor comes up from the ground adding to the moisture load in the crawl space and house. The damp air is harder to heat and cool.

Fogarty's Home Services helped make the homeowner's house less drafty, and warmer for this winter!

SilverGlo EPS foam insulation board with graphite is installed on the underside of your roof deck. The graphite is installed on the bottom of your roof deck. the graphite gives it a superior R-value and a foil face on both sides reflects heat out in the summer and back during the winter to prevent ice damming. In summer, excess heat is vented out. No harsh chemicals are sprayed in your home, like spray foam. The attic is now part of your home's conditioned space; ducts in the attic are no longer in a hostile environment. Your attic is clean, less dusty, and suitable for storage. You can even finish your attic! The SuperAttic advanced conversion system after completion helps to lower fuel and electric bills and makes your home more comfortable.

Significant heat loss from home and ducts in the winter caused drafts upstairs and downstairs and higher electric and fuel bills were the challenges for homeowners in Longmeadow, Ma.

Vented attacks are in hostile places at 30 degrees in the winter and 125 degrees in the summer. They are awful places to store things due to the extreme conditions. Another issue is with your ducts because they are opposite temperatures to the air in the ducts that you paid to heat and cool. The attic floor (your ceilings), allows air from the inside the house to leak into the attic where it is lost. For each cubic foot of air that leaks out, a cubic foot of air from the outside enters the bottom of the house, making your lower levels cold and drafty. The heat from the house in the attic meals snow on the roof where it refreezes at the eaves causing destructive ice damming. In the summer, the sun heats your roof to 160 degrees, which radiates to the attic and then to your ceilings and rooms.

Walls are insulated with SilverGlo insulation with a reflective radiant barrier face. SilverGlo foam has graphite infused into the foam to increase the R-value by 24% over standard foam. A dimpled plastic drainage matting is installed across the floor to create an airspace and thermal break, and TerraBlock floor insulation is installed over it. Finally, the heavy-duty 20mill thick crawlspace liner is installed permanently across the dirt floor - sealed with mechanical fasteners to the walls and spiked to the floor. The liner also features Ultrafresh anti-microbial ingredients in the product. The crawl space encapsulation systems help with providing much lower humidity, warmer floors upstairs, fewer drafts, a more comfortable house, lower fuel, and electric bills. The sump pump system we installed is designed just for crawl spaces. It features a heavy, shaded sump liner to fit in crawl spaces and accept the crawlspace liner, a ⅓ hp cast iron Zoeller pump with an automatic float switch, a stand for the pump, and an airtight lid that keeps moisture from evaporating out of the sump hole. There is also an alarm that sounds in the event of a pump failure or plumbing leak ( when installed with the Crawl space encapsulation system) as it drains the plumbing leak water away. A discharge line takes the water safely outside. The drain in the lid has a special check ball to let the air down but moisture and odors can’t come up. The sump pump in the crawl space prevents water depth accumulation in your crawl space. Sealing the rim joist is the final touch and sealing air leaks helps the home to become easier to heat and cool.

The Homeowner's Crawl Space Was in Bad Condition and Affected The Health of The Home With Moisture From The Dirt Beneath The Crawl Space.

This crawl space had an old sump pump that was not working properly. This crawl space also dealt with major condensation problems. Exposed crawl spaces could lead to issues in the winter contributing to the cause of cold floors, drafts, higher fuel, higher eclectic bills, and an unhealthy, uncomfortable home. Most crawl spaces are built with dirt floors - and not much care to prevent the leaking groundwater. This home had a sump pump in the crawl space but it was rusted and rotted due to the excessive moisture. To have a healthy, energy-efficient crawl space, standing water needs to be pumped out of the space. The relative humidity that standing water in a crawl space can cause in the home is mold and rot flourishing right under your feet. As the air makes its way up through your home, it will carry moisture, mold spores, and odors to your living space. The rim joists to the crawl space were leaky and poorly insulated and were not air-sealed contributing to cold floors, and more condensation build-up in the crawl space.

Insulating the basement to make it more energy efficient and installing Thermal Dry Plank Flooring to protect this basement from moisture and prevent mold growth.

First, we removed all the old fiberglass insulation from the basement walls. We then installed the Foamax boards on the basement walls and this is just not any foam - Foamax polyiso foam has flame retardant properties to satisfy building codes to leave it exposed in the basement. The results of installing the Foamax board provide a warmer, more comfortable basement, warmer floors above the basement, less condensation in the summertime, lower fuel bills, and the house is easier to heat. Are installers then spray the Rim Joist with cell spray foam to seal air leaks from the outside and insulate the important area of your home. It seals all cracks and gaps and joints where air from the outside enters. We then stripped the carpet and added our Total Basement Finishing product Thermal Dry Plank Flooring Providing a long-lasting solution that's a waterproof system and looks great in a finished basement. This unique product provides the perfect floor for all your basement waterproofing and finishing needs.

After our building science specialist conducted a free evaluation, they discovered that work was needed to make this basement resistant to moisture and prevent any opportunity for mold growth. The insulation needed to be removed due to the fact it was not providing any insulation value and was moldy and smelly. The rim Joist was also not insulated leading to cold floors in your home and an overall uncomfortable home. Having leaky poorly insulated rim joists could also be the cause of higher heating and cooling bills. This Homeowner also had poured concrete walls in their basement. This is an area of concern because the basement walls are buried in the earth - about 17 degrees cooler than we would like the interior of our homes to be. Heat is lost into the cold concrete in the winter, warm air from outside hits your cold basement walls, and condensation forms supporting mold. The building science specialist also wanted to get rid of the carpeting and install moisture-protective flooring down to help with any future mold development in the homeowner's basement.

After the removal, we then air seal the floor with zyp foam. The many various points where air from your home leaks up into your attic and is lost are sealed completely. We use expanding foam, boards, caulk, metal flashing, and fire caulk around your masonry as appropriate. This homeowner's chimney needed what we call a “chimney wrap”. First, the space between the wood framing and masonry is flashed with metal and then sealed airtight with special high-temperature caulk. Then completely fireproof “Rock Wool” insulation panels are installed around the chimney so that Trusoft cellulose insulation may be blown against the chimney. Chimney wrap leaves no gaps in the insulation around your chimney and seals one of the biggest air leaks in your home. The scuttle cover is then air sealed and insulated with SilverGlo to stop air leakage. The SilverGlo we use is graphite infused into the foam which bumps up the R-value by 24% over standard EPS foam. In addition, its radiant barrier reflects heat from the hot summer attic in the summer. The ducted fan is reinstalled to where it is supposed to be - safely outside. The bath fan was ducted with insulated ( northern climates ) ductwork outside through the roof shown at the left with a proper vent hood. This helps to no longer feed moisture to mold in your attic. To get rid of the mold we used our MoldX2 cleaner and MoldX2 botanical for the treatment area. Moldx2 cleaners effectively will eliminate mold and mildew stains on contact. It’s a plant-based disinfectant with a pleasant, temporary scent sprayed or fogged on surfaces, which prevents mold from growing back. The final step is to insulate the attic floor with our Trusoft Cellulose insulation blown to optimum R-value (typically R-60). TruSoft cellulose will not burn, get moldy, or attract pests. Blown insulation fills all gaps and odd-shaped voids. And by filling over framing members, thermal bridging is avoided. The results of fixing this uncomfortable home helped to make this home warmer, more comfortable, and less drafty house that they’ll notice everywhere - even downstairs! House is much quieter with lower fuel and electric bills.

Upon evaluation we immediately found mold spores in the attic and the pink batt insulation was sporadically placed and not helping with insulation affecting the energy efficiency of the home. There was no insulation surrounding the chimney due to building code leaving millions of homes including this homeowner with airspace from the basement or crawl space right into the attic. Air that you paid to heat ultimately leaks out of your home to the vented attic where it is lost. These homeowners also had sloped stairwell ceilings open to the attic creating a big triangular space that is open to the attic and creates a heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer. The sidewall open to the attic is hard to insulate often air leaks from the walls of your house into the attic. The bathroom fan was also vented into the attic which cause the mold spores to develop in the first place. Often plumbers and electricians leave fans dumped into the attic. But when warm humid air hit the cold attic surfaces - it condenses into water. Resulting in mold all over your roof deck, rafters, and ceiling joist, and in some cases even rot.

Then we installed pulldown stairs for attic access and a David Lewis hatch cover named by the engineer. This hatch cover stops air leakage and insulates over the pulldown stairs. Made of lightweight SilverGlo foam Insulation that you can lift aside to go in your attic. It has a radiant barrier foil on the flat lid to reflect heat back during the winter and out in the summer, so the insulation isn't doing the work by itself. We removed the old whole house fan to better help with the air sealing of the attic. The wall insulated the adjacent wall with silver glo, applied and sealed to the attic side of the interior walls to stop heat gain in the summer and heat loss in the winter. Following the application of the radiant wall barrier, we air-sealed areas with air leakage and insulated the attic floor with Trusoft cellulose. This helped to make the home more energy efficient for all seasons.

The entryway to the attic was under insulated and hard to access causing air leakage of a lot of air. An under-insulated attic entryway affects your home with colder drafty rooms that are hard to heat, and higher heating and cooling costs. This home was constructed with rooms that have walls exposed to hostile attic temperatures. It’s part of why rooms are too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. The fiberglass insulation in the wall was very exposed (open-faced to the attic) It was not giving much insulation value at all because air and heat would flow through the open matrix of insulation easily. The new homeowners also had a whole house fan, today most of these whole house fans are obsolete and never seldom used. The problem is that the fan louvers leak a lot of air when the fan is off, also adding to the problem of a cold, drafty room. After evaluating this home we knew exactly have to save the new homeowners' money on their future fuel and electric bills and how to make this home more comfortable.

This homeowner had a large amount of their pink fiberglass insulation damaged and sagging. It’s not fun laying on your back in a tight dirt crawl space, but our installers get the job done. After this process, your crawl space is ready to be fixed properly with other Dr. Energy Saver solutions. We seal the vents and other air leaks using insulated vent covers to properly fix this homeowner's damaged crawl space. The walls of the crawl space are insulated with silver glo insulation with a reflective radiant barrier face. A dimpled plastic drainage matting is then installed across the floor to create airspace and thermal break, and terra block floor insulation is installed over it. Finally, the heavy-duty 20-mil thick crawlspace encapsulation liner is installed permanently across the dirt floor - sealed with mechanical fasteners. The crawl space encapsulation liner features ultra-fresh antimicrobial ingredients in the product. We finish the job by air sealing the rim joist with two-part spray foam with a high insulation value per inch of R&, and because it expands it seals all cracks and gaps and joints where air from the outside enters your home.

The old thinking in crawl space construction was to vent the crawl space and create a thermal boundary being the insulation layer at the crawl space ceiling. What we know now is that it doesn’t work. Insulation is pulled by gravity away from the subfloor you're supposed to be insulating. The same cold air under the insulation flows into the space on top of it - rendering the insulation useless. As the insulation gets heavier with moisture content, it falls away from the subfloor even more and can even fall to the floor. Fiberglass batt insulation has paper facing and organic material in the resin used to set the fibers into a batt - both are mold food. This homeowner was dealing with these very issues. The homeowner was also dealing with a vented dirt crawl space. Millions of homes were built this way. Currently building science specialists agree - that was a big mistake. Now that building codes are changing.

In the winter vents let cold air directly into homes. In the summer vents let warm humid air in which is cooled by the subterranean crawl space. This causes the relative humidity to go way up and condensation to form all over the crawl space surfaces including floor joists and ducts. Mold grows, wood rots, and insects and other pests flourish. Musty odors can be noticed upstairs as mold spores travel upwards into the living space. During the inspection, the building science specialist noticed the crawl space Rim Joists were leaky and poorly insulated as well. The rim joist is seldom insulated and never air sealed. This also explains why the level of condensation was higher in this crawl space.

Once the insulation is removed your attic is now clean and ready for proper air sealing and installation of insulation. Next, we remove the whole house fan, the solution is simply to remove the fan and its leaky louvers and install drywall over the hole. This eliminates the air leaks, and now the space formally occupied by the fan can be filled with attic insulation! Air sealing and insulating the scuttle cover was the followed procedure after and we sealed the original entrance to the hole and made a new entrance. The scuttle cover is weather stripped to stop air leakage, and then the cover is insulated with our SilverGlo foam insulation panel. This helps the scuttle cover become tighter, more comfortable, and less drafty. With the bath fan issue, we helped to get the moisture where it’s supposed to be - safely outside. Your bath fan will be ducted with insulated ductwork outside through the roof with a proper vent hood. To finish off the insulation of the homeowner's attic we first apply SilverGlo panels on the bottom of the rafters in the knee wall spaces and the ceiling rim joist bays are blocked and sealed with foam to stop air leakage. Then the roof slopes are dense packed with TruSoft cellulose insulation to stop airflow and insulate. Finally, the flat ceiling is insulated with TruSoft cellulose insulation.

The attic insulation was old and dirty with undesirable mouse droppings. Another issue was a whole house fan mounted in the upper floor ceiling which leaked air and was uninsulated. Whole house fans are seldom used and these fans are most certainly not needed anymore. The homeowner’s bathroom fan was causing destructive moisture in the attic as well as being vented directly into the attic. Plumbers and electricians leave fans dumping into the attic not factoring in the mold and rot damage that comes from the humid air. Some attics have what is called a scuttle hole o access the attic the problem with this homeowner is how much air was leaking out of their scuttle hole cover. The scuttle hole was a big area in the homeowner's ceiling that was not insulated. This Homeowner also had a sloped stairwell ceiling open to the attic. When a stairwell has a sloped ceiling forming a big triangular space open to the attic it creates a heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer. The stairwell ceiling radiates heat from the house into the attic, and from the hot attic to the home in the summer. The style of this homeowner’s home is a cape cod style construction which entails the second floor of the cape suffers inadequate insulation. All of these issues were discovered to result in cold drafty rooms in the winter and hot in the summer.

This step is necessary to have a healthy home. After this process, your space is ready to be properly insulated. We first begin with spray foaming the rim joist with two-part expanding spray foam. Our spray foam has a high insulation value per inch of R7, and because it expands, it seals all cracks, gaps, and joints where air from the outside enters your home. After this process, the results are warmer floors in the winter, fewer drafts, more comfortable rooms, and your house will be easier to heat and cost less to heat, less summertime condensation on the cold basement surface. To finish the insulation in this homeowner's basement we installed our polyiso foam insulation boards on the basement walls with proprietary foam-tite fasteners. This is not just any foam - Fomax polyiso foam has the flame retardant properties to satisfy building codes to leave it exposed in a basement - unlike expanded or extruded polystyrene foam (EPS, XPS). In addition, the Foamax polyiso board has a foil to reflect heat so the insulation isn’t doing all the work by itself.

The “Rim Joist” is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house. This home was not insulated and never air sealed. The results of not having your rim joist insulated could create cold floors, drafty uncomfortable rooms, higher heating and cooling bills, and more condensation. Another problem making this home uncomfortable is the moldy, moisture-damaged, delaminated fiberglass insulation in the basement. Some of the fiberglass insulation was pulled by gravity away from the subfloor sagging down and not properly placed. This ultimately rendered the insulation useless. The fiberglass insulation has paper and organic material in the resin used to set the fibers into a batt - both are mold food. This homeowner was dealing with mold and smelly insulation that was not providing any insulation value. The uninsulated poured concrete basement walls also needed to be insulated. Your poured concrete wall basement walls are buried in the cool earth and are perpetually cold - about 17 º F cooler than we like our interior homes to be. In the winter heat is wasted, and in the summer, warm humid air from outside hits your cold basement walls, and condensation forms, supporting mold.

Properly air sealing all areas exposed to air leakage was the next step because adding insulation without sealing all air leaks should never be done because if so that would be burying air leaks and making them impossible to seal later. To resolve the issue with the unventilated bathroom Fogarty’s Home Services cuts a properly sized hole in the ceiling of the bathroom and installs a new fan with or without a light included, this home got one with a light. The bath fan was then piped to move the exhausted moisture outside either through an end wall, a soffit, or a roof vent. This installation helps to reduce humidity and reduces occurrences of mildew, mold, and structural damage. Removing the whole house fan was another step in fixing the problem. The solution is simple - remove the fan and its leaky louvers, and install drywall over the hole. This eliminates the air leakage and allows the space formerly occupied to be filled with attic insulation. Installing can light covers with our Titeshell product that are safe from fire hazards, helps when the insulation is blown in to eliminate costly gaps in insulation adding to R-value. We also sealed the chimney chase, sealed the floor with zyp foam, and air sealed and insulated the scuttle cover. Getting rid of the unhealthy mold growth was next on this list. Fogarty’s Home Services used a Mold-X Neutralizer as an effective treatment to kill and stop the mold from producing spores. The final step was the installation of the TruSoft cellulose insulation. Our premium TruSoft Cellulose insulation is blown to optimum R-value (typically R60). TruSoft will not burn, get moldy, or attract pests.

The challenge with this home was the attic. Attic insulation in your home can get pretty nasty, and unventilated bathrooms and laundry rooms have lots of destructive moisture, without a proper ventilation fan, the humidity builds up and causes mold, rot, and eventually structural failure. Another challenge with this home was air leakage in areas of the attic such as holes, gaps, joints, pipes, wires, ducts, electrical boxes, fixtures, ceiling grills, and joints in the framing. In addition to the areas of concern mentioned this homeowner has an old whole house fan mounted in the upper floor ceiling. Today most of these whole house fans are obsolete and never or seldom used. The problem is that the fan louvers leak a lot of air even when the fan is off. The whole house fan was a challenge, but the chimney was unsealed and the Can lights were causing air leakage.

Air cannot leak through the foam. Not only does tite n true foam duct encapsulation have a superior R-value per inch, but it recovers some insulation value from your existing duct wrap by making it air-tight. Any inaccessible areas on the bottom of ducts can’t be sprayed with foam, but when this solution is combined with TruSoft blown insulation, the ducts are often substantially buried in cellulose insulation as well. Now, when your furnace or air conditioner heats or cools the air, without loss along the way. This job results in more comfortable rooms, warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, less dust/noise, lower fuel/electric bills, and longer furnace/AC equipment life.

Do you have ducts in your attic?

Your vented attic is the worst possible place to locate ducts. Attics are the extreme opposite temperature of the air your ducts are trying to distribute to your rooms. They are 30°F in winter when the air in the duct is 120°F, and 125°F in summer when the air inside your duct is 55°F. Ducts are very poorly insulated with fiberglass insulation - and air passes right fiberglass. In winter the attic cools the duct and air in it. So instead of having 120°F air that you paid to heat coming out of your registers into your rooms, it may be only 90°F - making you uncomfortable, and the furnace run longer to heat your home - which costs you money. In the summer, the 120°F + attic heats your ducts and air in them, instead of 55°F air that you paid to cool coming into your rooms, it may be 70° - reheated by your ducts in your hot attic. You’re AC has to run longer to make you comfortable. Ducts have lots of joints, gaps, and holes. These are not only air leaks into the vented attic when the air handler is OFF, but they have powered air leaks when it’s on. The air you paid to heat and cool and want to go to your rooms is leaking out of the ducts into your attic and is lost! Return duct leaks suck in very cold dusty air to try to cool. This job can result in uncomfortable rooms, some rooms (farther from the air handler) won’t heat/cool, higher fuel and electric bills, more dust, and more noise.

It’s custom to cut to the size needed and installed with a U track along the bottom and special threaded knobs. Anchors are installed into your foundation to hold the door tight. Thick weather stripping around the perimeter seals your new door airtight. The door will never rust, rot or need paint! This job will create an airtight access door that will last forever! Less air leakage, less condensation, more comfortable home.

A non-sealed crawl space access door causes humid air to leak causing condensation all over your crawl space.

Today we know that to have a comfortable, energy-efficient home, free of mold, rot, bugs, and odors we must seal off all air (and water) leaks from the outside. But your old crawl space access door doesn't do that. This results in Warm, humid air leaking during summer, causing condensation all over the crawl space, cold air leaks during the winter causing cold floors above and cooling off heating ducts, and higher fuel, and electric bills.

It’s made specifically for cooler temperatures found in below-grade crawl spaces. Able to remove an incredible 100 pints of water per day using only 9.5 amps of electricity, the SanidDry Sedona drains automatically to a sump or the outside with a condensate pump. It has a powerful 310 cfm blower to circulate the dry air completely around to dry building materials and contents. Mold doesn’t have a chance! An automatic control is easy - set to 55% RH and forget it - the SaniDry Sedona does the rest! And there are no buckets to empty! This job results in low relative humidity, mold stops growing, odors are reduced, crawl space is suitable for storage, and lower air conditioning cost, upstairs is dryer.

High humidity causes many problems in your home such as mold (which grows at relative humidities [RH] above 75%), rot (which happens above 90% RH) odors, airborne mold spores that aggravate allergies and asthma, increased pests and insects such as termites, and higher air conditioning and heating costs. Since air rises up from the crawl space to the living space, if the crawl space is humid and smelly, so is the upstairs because of it. Once air and water leaks in your crawl space are fixed and the soil is isolated from the earth, an additional measure is needed to ensure the relative humidity stays low at all times, in all seasons. This can result in cold floors above, condensation, mold, rot, odors, drafty, uncomfortable home, and higher fuel, and electric bills.

Every Year at Fogarty's Home Services, we partner with local churches & organizations to help those who need assistance during the Holiday Season.

We also helped Western MA Labor Action by loading up a truck with fresh produce and distributed it throughout one of their yearly routes in MA. It's a blessing to help those around us year round, but especially during the holiday season.

Fogarty's Home Services
As we continue to serve our customers, our primary concern as we face the developing situation with COVID-19 is to maintain the safety and wellbeing of our employees and our customers.

To our valued customers,

We understand that there is a growing concern in our community about the spread of COVID-19. As we continue to serve our customers, our primary concern as we face the developing situation with COVID-19 is to maintain the safety and wellbeing of our employees and our customers. Throughout this time, we will be increasing our protocols for keeping our customers and our employees safe. They are as follows:

All our vehicles and our offices will be sanitized daily with a hospital grade Antimicrobial.

We have instructed our employees to stay home if they experience any symptoms or are not feeling well at all.

Our Crews will notify homeowners when they arrive on-site for a job but will not shake your hand and will keep the recommended distance from you for your and our safety.

All our Installers will wear Personal Protection Equipment, including Tyvek Suits, Face Masks, and gloves to ensure that they protect themselves and our customers from any possible exposure.

It is important for us to provide safe working conditions for employees and customers. We ask that any customers who are experiencing any symptoms notify our office so that we can reschedule your appointment for a time that you are feeling better and your symptoms have passed.

We will continue to monitor the developing situation with COVID-19 and adjust our business practices as needed. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

We wish you and your family good health and happiness.

Sincerely,
